Synopsis

A Brooklyn teenager is reunited with her Guyanese cousin for the funeral of a relative. On the last day of the wake, the girls venture out into the city alone.

Cousins screens as part of the shorts program Short Fictions Program 1, on Friday, June 25 at 6:00 pm.

About the Director

Mandy Marcus is a Guyanese-American writer and director based in Brooklyn, New York. She holds a BA in Media Studies from Pomona College, studied experimental film at University of Melbourne, and received her MFA in directing from Brooklyn College’s Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema. Prior to filmmaking, Mandy worked as a music promoter, label manager and traveling recruiter. In the summer of 2020 she placed as a semi-finalist in the Shondaland SeriesFest Women Directing Fellowship. Cousins is a 2020 National Board of Review Student Grant winner and 2020 IFP/ The Gotham Student Showcase winner.
